Sparkling Crystals - The Royal Passion of Mewars !!!
The crystal gallery is one the most lustrous attractions for tourist
showcasing the rare and precious crystal from the royal treasure.
For more than hundred years, the crystals remained underground and the
gallery was not open to public prospect, due to its beauty and richness.
The gallery is nearly 129 years old (at the time of writing) with the
magnificent collection of Oslers Crystals. These precious crystals were
ordered by Maharana Sajjan Singh from the famous manufacturers F and C Osler
Company, Birmingham, England around 1877 A.D. Although, the Maharana could
not see the most valuable crystals due to his premature death. These
treasured crystals are kept in the charismatic City Palace Complex, inside
the Fateh Prakash Palace Hotel overlook the majestic and imperial Darbar
Hall. The fragile crystal gallery is open to visitors from 10 am to 1pm and
3 pm to 8 pm throughout the year.
Factroid
The precious crystals remained underground for
more than 100 years, due to its beauty and richness. These unique crystals
were first displayed to public in 1994. It has some cosmic collection of
over 600 crystals, items like sofa sets, dining tables have occupied a large
portion and are also the limelight of the crystal arched.

champagne glasses, candle stands and coasters all made up of glass
definitely cast a spell on you. Next to this you can experience the royal
Darbar hall, that displays the portraits of the former rulers of Udaipur
like the legend Maharana Pratap and others, who fought bravely and
frequently challenged Akbar. Other precious items include crystal dressing
tables, chairs, crockery, table fountains and even the regal beds.
The entrance fee to the Crystal Gallery is high but then it is a fragile
and exclusive collection of quartz that needs to be protected. Do tour the

Do You Know
This rare collection of Osler`s crystal,
manufactured by an English company, was ordered by Maharana Sajjan Singh
1877, although the maharana never saw his magnificent collection of crystals
because of his untimely death. Isn't it amazing to know !!!
Another
attraction around the Crystal Gallery is Moti Mahal (Pearl palace), it is
adorned with the corking mirror work. The Barri Mahal (Garden Palace) is an
amazing garden with twin water tanks, beside the great charm of flora there
is Chini Mahal close to the Crystal Gallery that showcases the magnificent
ornamental tiles. Another, most important palace is Manak Mahal (Ruby
Palace), which has minute glass and sparkling mirror work while the Krishna
Vilas has a remarkable collection of miniatures paintings that portray royal
processions, festivals and images of former Maharanas.
How to Reach !!!
The esthetical Crystal Gallery is constructed inside the City Palace
Complex, located in the banks of famous Lake Pichola, which is easily
approachable by taxis, local buses and even by rickshaws. There are also the
luxurious tourist cabs available for a sightseeing tour of the city
including the City Palace. Udaipur is well plugged in by air with Jaipur,
Jodhpur, Delhi, Ahmadabad and Mumbai and the roads are well linked to the
national highway 8, that links Udaipur to Agra by 630 Km, Ahmadabad by 262
Km and Ajmer by 264 Km.
