Lake Pichola was originally named as the Badipol, built by Maharana Udai
Singh II. Stretched over many kilometers shimmering like a 'Jewel in the
Crown' nestling amidst the heart of Udaipur around which the entire city

According to legends, Maharana Udai Singh II was hunting in foothills of
the Aravalli Range, where he met one hermit. The hermit blessed the king and
asked him to build a palace on the river (Lake Pichola) that would be well
protected from surpass enemies. At the time when Mughal Emperor Akbar
captured the ancient capital of Maharanas - Chittaurgarh, the then Maharana
Chittaur, Udai Singh moved to the blessed capital which later on earned the
name of Udaipur.
